Use Of Portable Foam Fire Extinguisher

Portable foam fire extinguisher is a common fire-fighting equipment, which is widely used in homes, offices, vehicles and various public places to deal with the initial fire situation, especially for the fire caused by flammable liquids, such as gasoline, grease, etc. Its working principle is to produce foam through chemical reaction, cover the surface of the fire source, isolate oxygen, and achieve the purpose of extinguishing fire. The correct use of portable foam fire extinguishers is essential to quickly control the fire and reduce losses. The following are detailed usage steps and precautions:

Inspection before use
1. Check the validity period
Firstly, confirm whether the fire extinguisher is within its validity period. Usually, there is a clear production date and expiration date label on the fire extinguisher.

2. Appearance inspection
Check if there are any signs of damage, rust, or leakage on the shell of the fire extinguisher. Ensure that the nozzle is unobstructed, and that the safety pin and handle are intact and undamaged.

3. Location confirmation
Ensure that the fire extinguisher is easy to access and placed in a prominent and easily accessible location.

Usage steps
1. Stay calm and assess the fire situation
Confirm whether the fire type is suitable for using foam extinguishers (applicable to Class A solid substance and Class B flammable liquid fires, not electrical fires).

2. Lift the fire extinguisher
Stand about 2-3 meters upwind from the fire source, pick up the fire extinguisher, and ensure that the bottom of the fire extinguisher is stable.

3. Pull out the safety pin
Grasp the handle of the fire extinguisher with your hand and pull out the safety pin located above the handle with the other hand.

4. Aim at the source of fire
Aim the fire extinguisher nozzle at the root of the fire source, not at the top of the flame. Correct targeting is the key to successful firefighting.

5. Squeeze handle
Squeeze the handle with force, and foam will be ejected from the nozzle and evenly cover the surface of the combustor. Continue spraying until the fire source is completely extinguished.

6. Scanning fire extinguishing
The left and right strafing is adopted to ensure that the foam fully covers the fire source and effectively insulates the oxygen.

7. Monitor fire sources
After extinguishing the fire, continue to observe the fire source area to prevent reignition. If necessary, use the fire extinguisher again or take other measures.

Post use processing
1. Record usage
After use, record the time, location, and user information of the fire extinguisher for timely supplementation or replacement.

2. Professional inspection
Even if not fully used, professional personnel should be contacted for inspection and maintenance to ensure reliability for the next use.

3. Safe storage
Return the fire extinguisher to its original location or designated storage point, keep it dry and ventilated, and avoid exposure to sunlight and rain.

The correct and skilled use of portable foam extinguishers can effectively control the fire at the initial stage of a fire and protect personal and property safety. Therefore, understanding and mastering its usage methods is one of the basic skills that every member of society should possess.
